San Elizario ISD Begins Phase-In of On-Campus Instruction and In-Person Athletics with TEA Approval of Asynchronous Plan
SAN ELIZARIO, TEXAS – Online instruction began for students in the San Elizario Independent School District (SEISD) on August 3, 2020 for approximately 3,200 students. Upon the expiration of the local county health order on September 7th, the district will begin Phase II of in-person instruction with some staff and some students who have connectivity issues and special populations on September 8th. The Phase II will continue through the first 9 week grading period, which ends October 2nd. In addition to the in-person phase of instruction, the San Elizario ISD will also begin with in-person athletic practices.
Virtual learning for students whose parents selected to keep students learning online will continue to have the option of learning from home for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
TEA Waiver to Extend Transition for the 1st Nine Weeks Approved
The district received notice on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, that a waiver request submitted by Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez, to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) was granted. The approved waiver will allow SEISD to begin Phase II as previously indicated and close off the first grading period without disruption to the instructional continuity the district has already established for students.
Phase II Reopening Plan
The first group of students to return are those that have experienced connectivity issues. Even though the district provided hotspots and devices, students were not able to appropriately connect. Then, the district made alternate arrangements for students to proceed with hard copy packets in order to keep them on pace instructionally. Additionally, school personnel have also identified students in special populations who will also be brought in for in-person instruction.
The Phase II transition will allow for small groups of students at each of the district's six schools. The students who will begin in-person instruction on Tuesday, September 8th have already been contacted by campus administration. While on campus, students will be provided the internet access needed for them to continue engaging with other classmates who will remain in a virtual setting.
Phase III - Parents Who Chose In-Person Learning
For students whose parents opted for the traditional in-person instruction on the Re-entry Parent Survey, the start date will be Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
Request to change from Online Learning to In-Person Learning or vice versa
After the 9 weeks grading is complete, parents will have the option to make changes to the learning model for their child to continue with instruction online or on campus. Parents are able to do this by contacting the campus administration two weeks before the end of every 9 weeks grading period. This will allow for the appropriate review of procedures as we continue to work to keep everyone safe.
Athletics Resumes with In-Person Training
Athletic in-person practice will also resume on Tuesday, September 8th. San Elizario ISD Coaches will transition from the virtual training environment they have engaged students in since the beginning of the school year. All the appropriate safety protocols will continue to be in place.
TEA Approved the San Elizario ISD Asynchronous Plan
On September 3rd, the district received official notice from Texas Education Agency (TEA) that the San Elizario ISD Asynchronous Plan submitted for review of the online format for instruction was approved.
