New Principal at Borrego Elementary School
SAN ELIZARIO, TX – The San Elizario Independent School District (SEISD) welcomes Ms. Martha E. Santana as the new principal at Borrego Elementary School. Ms. Santana is entering her twenty-sixth year in education.
Ms. Santana holds a Master of Arts in Education / Administration & Supervision with Educational Administration and Mid-Management certification from The University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies certification in grades 1st – 8th in general and bilingual education from the University of Texas at El Paso.
When asked about the appointment as principal, Santana states, “I believe in the power of building relationships. Making connections with people is essential to me, which is what the community can expect. I feel blessed to be in a place that has welcomed me with open arms. I am grateful to be part of the San Elizario ISD family!”
Ms. Santana was an assistant principal in the Socorro Independent School District. She has experience as a state literacy liaison / instructional coach with the University of Texas at Austin, Institute for Public School Initiatives. Before that, she was a bilingual instructional specialist and a bilingual teacher.
Ms. Blanca Cruz, Human Resources Director, states, “Borrego Elementary is in great hands with Ms. Santana. Our community, students, faculty, and staff will benefit from an educator with a wealth of experience developing teachers and fostering a student-focused culture.” Ms. Santana states, “I want kids to feel safe when they come to school. I want them to feel cared for, and I want them to be and feel successful.”
Mrs. Teresa Wilks was the previous principal of Borrego Elementary School, and she retired in June 2023 after approximately nine years of service as principal with the San Elizario Independent School District.
