Helping Hands Reaching Out to Our Families
SAN ELIZARIO, TEXAS – If you live, work in, or have visited San Elizario, you might have noticed the traffic increase in and out of San Elizario High School. The increased traffic is due to the food distribution being done to help families in the community to continue to get nutritional ingredients for meals.
The San Elizario Independent School District in collaboration with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger are working together to provide food distributions to families.
Since the approval of this partnership by the San Elizario ISD Board of Trustees in April, there have been a total of 13 distributions days. Each of those distribution days have helped an estimated 650 community families, which translates into approximately 8,450 boxes of food distributed to families in need.
Social Worker Parra states, “The work simply could not have been successful without the community spirit of our volunteers!”
Thousands of families have been provided with supplemental food supplies to help weather the pandemic.
District Social Worker, Teresita Parra, has coordinated the effort of the food distribution since its inception with the assistance of District Parent Liaison, Flor Sanchez, GEMS Parent Liaison, Santa Garcia to include parent and community volunteers as well as members of the San Elizario Coaching Staff.
Parra states, “We are grateful for the support. In the end, our children and families win and strong relationships continue to grow with the San Elizario Community”
Going forward, the upcoming food distribution dates will be every third Monday of the month beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Support Services Operations Center (200 N. Herring Rd.).
The remaining food distribution dates are August 17th, September 21st, October 19th, and November 16th.
