Senate Bill 463

Senate Bill 463 was successfully passed and signed into law in the 85th legislative session and extends individual graduation committees (IGCs) for students who entered the 9th grade prior to 2011-2012 school year and who took the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test. 
 
The bill extends the Individual Graduation Committees put in place in 2015 by SB 149 and the reporting requirements for students graduating based on IGC review process to September 1, 2019. 
 
Senate Bill 463 extends the opportunity for students to graduate even if they haven't passed their required exams by going before a graduation committee. Senate Bill 463 allows students to go before individual graduation committees as an alternate route to graduation.

SB 463 applies to a student who: 

  • Entered ninth grade before the 2011–2012 school year; 
  • Successfully completed the curriculum requirements for high school graduation (as applicable when the student entered the ninth grade);
  • Hasn’t performed satisfactorily on an end-of-course (EOC) exam or part of an EOC exam required for graduation, including an alternative assessment offered under Sec. 39.025(c-1); and 
  • Has been administered the EOC exam or part of the EOC exam for which the student has not performed satisfactorily as least three times.
