Dr. Peter Lin Breaks Down Information on Coronavirus (COVID-19)
A letter from Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez regarding District Closure (March 16, 2020) |
*UPDATE: DPS provided information that makes it necessary for the SEISD to EXTEND the closure status from the original March 23rd to March 27th to INCLUDE March 30th to April 3rd. Please keep in mind that the official Spring Break is March 16 through March 20, 2020.
This communication is to reassure you the Administration is continuing to monitor and collaborate with the appropriate health organizations as well as other local entities as we move forward to address and communicate reliable information on the coronavirus (COVID-19) as well as next steps for the San Elizario ISD.
I would like to reiterate that our district support services personnel, particularly our custodial staff, are continuing to maintain the high-quality level of cleaning and disinfecting standards they do daily.
The 2019 novel coronavirus is believed to be spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes, much in the way the flu and other respiratory viruses are spread. Symptoms can be fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
Let’s continue to do our part by following the guidelines that health officials are recommending local communities and schools should take the same steps to protect against coronavirus.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Avoid large gatherings.
To help reduce your family’s anxiety, try and limit television viewing or access to information on the Internet and through social media. Try to avoid watching or listening to information that might be upsetting when your children are present.
It is also important for you to know that all San Elizario ISD out of town travel for employees and students will be canceled for the remainder of March 2020. Further travel decisions for April will be made with consideration and careful monitoring of any other developments.
The San Elizario ISD Administration will continue to monitor, prepare, and communicate accordingly. For further information please visit the following links.
