Araujo leads San Elizario School Board

The San Elizario Independent School Districts Board of Trustees recently elected long time trustee Antonio Araujo as its new president on June 9. Araujo returns to the office of board president after he was unopposed for re-election for the position of Trustee Place 5 during the district’s recent board elections held on May 8.

Araujo takes the place of Jaquez who had served as board president since May 2008. This is the third time that he is chosen to lead the San Elizario ISD school board since becoming a trustee back in 1994. Araujo is currently the Executive Director of Organización Progresiva de San Elizario, a non-profit organization that provides a range of housing services and assistance for local residents.

Other members re-elected to the San Elizario ISD school board are Vicente Delgadillo as Trustee Place 4, Irene D. Jaquez as Trustee Place 6, and Armando Martinez as Trustee Place 7. Judge Ruben Lujan administered the oath of office for the new and re-elected board members.

Martinez returns to take a seat at the board after a brief hiatus replacing Priscilla Ortega. He is one of the longest serving trustees with over 20 years of service. Trustee Ramon Holguin remains in the office of vice president while the newest member of the board, Jose Rodriguez, takes over the position of secretary.
