San Elizario High School senior Victoria Valencia continues receiving accolades for her outstanding athletic performance. On April 28, 2010 Victoria was named the District 2-4A Female Athlete of the Year by the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame at the annual awards ceremony held at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Victoria has earned an impressive record as a member of the El Paso Sunspots club volleyball team, and San Elizario High School volleyball and softball teams. It is Victoria’s commitment to volleyball where her remarkable ability as an athlete truly shines. She led District 4A in hitting percentage and total kills for the past two years. From her freshman through her senior year, as team captain Victoria lead the Lady Eagles volleyball team to three playoff appearances. She has been named to the All City Volleyball First Team and varsity team volleyball MVP all four years of her high school career. Victoria has also been recognized with the Flo Hyman Award in 2010, the Wendy’s Heisman Athletic Scholarship 2009-2010, and Maxpreps/American Volleyball Coaches Association player of the week and all American watch list designations.

Victoria’s successes also extend to the classroom where she is currently one of San Elizario High School’s top students ranked third in her class. She also belongs to the National Honor Society where she presently holds the office of treasurer. Her academic and athletic achievements caught the eye of UTEP who signed Victoria to their volleyball team on April 14. She will serve as a defensive specialist for the UTEP Miners, who compete in Conference USA and at the NCAA Division I level.

Victoria is the daughter of Rosie and Joe Valencia of San Elizario.
