Supplemental Educational Services
Under No Child Left Behind, a Title I, Part A campus identified as Stage 2 or above is required to arrange for the provision of Supplemental Educational Services (SES) for who qualify for free and/or reduced lunch. SES must be implemented at the beginning of school for any campus identified stage 2 or above and continued until the campus exits School Improvement status. In the event that a campus successfully appeals the preliminary SIP identification, SES must continue through the end of the school year.
Definition of SES
Supplemental educational services are additional academic instruction designed to increase the academic achievement of students in campuses needing improvement. These services may include academic assistance such as tutoring, remediation and other educational interventions, provided that such approaches are consistent with the content and instruction used by the San Elizario Independent School District (SEISD) and are aligned with the State’s academic content standards. Supplemental educational services must be provided outside of the regular school day. Supplemental educational services must be high-quality, research-based, and specifically designed to increase student academic achievement.

Stage 3 |
All students who qualify for free and/or reduced lunch (as defined by SEISD in determining Title I, Part A campus allocations) are eligible to request SES if they attend a Title I, Part A campus that has failed to make AYP for two or more consecutive years.
Choosing a SES Provider
If parents of these students wish to have their child receive SES, they must choose from the following providers. A SES package with 2009-10 School Improvement Program (SIP) SES Selection Form and detailed provider service information was provided to all parents during regular campus registration. However, parents can pick up and complete a 2009-10 SES Package at the GEMS front office or may contact Mr. Julian Encina (915) 872-3960 ext. 3349 or Norma DeKoatz (915) 872-3960 ext. 3323 for any questions or concerns.
